Subscriptions
Now that the weather has improved, thoughts may be straying to the start of the season. It won’t be long until the first cast of another year, which means it will soon be time to dust off the tackle, tie those flies you promised yourself and perhaps invest in that new rod you just can’t do without - and it also means that it’s time to pay your annual subscriptions.
Rates are unchanged this year - £60 for normal adult membership and £30 for senior members – and subs are due on 31st January. Most members are now paying by standing order but if you are among the few who don’t, ask the Secretary for a standing order form.
Juniors get free membership this year, but must obtain a membership card before fishing.
Contact the Secretary, giving name, address and age, to get a membership pack.

Members caught 71 salmon, of which over 80% were released. Total numbers of sea trout and finnock were 226, with over 90% returned.

Good news on salmon and sea trout
Catch returns received to date show encouraging numbers of migratory fish, with members netting over 60 salmon and 190 sea trout. Better still, the great majority of these were returned, which augurs well for our future fishing.
However, fewer than half of members have sent in their catch return so far. If you are one of those who haven’t - better late than never, send it in now.
Final catch statistics will be published later.
Storr Lochs disappoint
Members reported disappointing returns from Storr Lochs. Fish were hard to come by and there was a distinct shortage of larger specimens. Following the survey carried out this year, the Committee sought further expert advice, but the reasons for the decline remain elusive.
As an interim measure, we plan to resume stocking at the beginning of next season. Details are yet to be finalised and will be announced later.
